Scout Troop and Service Learning Projects
Service learning is an expanded version of community service. It is an activity that emphasizes student leadership and academic components while celebrating their sense of environmental stewardship and personal responsibility. With service learning projects, students reflect on the needs of CROW’s recovering patients, think about ways to help and reflect on how their efforts have positively impacted our organization.
All service learning projects must be approved by CROW’s Education Coordinator before a group can begin with the activity. Service learning projects are completed once the goods or services have been distributed and the students have received an educational program on CROW’s campus.
Activities
Patient loads fluctuate throughout the year, so project needs vary. For scout troops and service learning projects, previous groups have engaged in the any of the following activities:
- Built Owl Boxes for CROW Wildlife Rescue Volunteers
- Raised Money to Buy Plants for the Gopher Tortoises to eat:
- Red Hibiscus Flower Bushes
- Prickly Pear Cactus
- Collected Donated Stuffed Animals for Baby Patients
- Collected Food for Patients:
- Peanut Butter
- Bird Seed (without sunflower seeds)
- Applesauce
- Bananas
- Collected Husbandry Supplies for the Hospital:
- Dawn Dish Soap
- Chlorox Bleach
- Contractor Sized Garbage Bags
- Paper Towels
