Assistant Maintenance Technician

Full-time OR Part-time

Work Location: Visitor Education Center, Administrative Office, Student Housing, Hospital and Grounds

Department: Maintenance

Reports to: Facilities and Grounds Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all preventative maintenance and repairs for all buildings and building systems (hvac, electrical, etc.) and/or recommends contractors or skilled volunteers to perform the work within budgetary guidelines.
  • Assists with landscaping/upkeep of the grounds, which may include assigning and directing volunteers or contractors.
  • Maintains buildings interiors by routine painting, cleaning, and other necessary upkeep.
  • Troubleshoots problems and acts as first responder for physical building or landscaping emergencies.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies and company vehicles in good working order.
  • Ensures that tools and machines are used safely and properly, following safety regulations.
  • Performs environmental hazard management/planning and remediation. Identifies and assesses any unusual or hazardous situations to management.
  • Makes recommendations for future grounds and facilities upgrades and /or expansion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • High School or general education degree (GED); and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of building operating systems such as HVAC, security & sprinkler systems, fire alarms, plumbing, heating, electrical and related.
  • Knowledge of proper construction and maintenance techniques and ability to use power/hand tools.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work efficiently, accurately, and independently.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude and provide exemplary customer service.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with co-workers, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly.
  • Required to stand, walk, and may have to climb and/or balance. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
