Jayne Johnston graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in 2016 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental studies. She spent her college years volunteering as a shorebird steward and interning with the Wings of Hope Panther Posse (panther education for 4th and 5th graders). Her first position with the FWC was part-time as the first panther outreach specialist. She later transitioned into a full-time statewide wildlife assistance biologist (WAB) adding to her living with panthers’ education to include living with bears, bobcats, coyotes, snakes, bats, and many more. She is now a Senior Wildlife Assistance Biologist supervising 4 WABs across the state handling human-wildlife conflict calls. In addition to her work at the FWC, she is the volunteer coordinator for the Stop Foundation. In her free time, Jayne enjoys birdwatching, kayaking, snorkeling, and lazy days at the beach.
