Where are you from?

Hi! I’m Emily. I’m originally from Miami Beach, Florida, and I’m currently living in California, where I attend UC Berkeley and am pursuing my bachelor’s in biology.

What’s your position at CROW and how long are you here for?

I am a Wildlife Care Extern at CROW and will be here for 10 weeks.

What’s your favorite part of your internship?

My favorite part of this externship is how hands-on the experience has been. It has exceeded all of my expectations, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many incredible species that I grew up learning about and admiring. Being directly involved in their care and rehabilitation has been both rewarding and inspiring.

Favorite role in the hospital?

My favorite role in the hospital is working upstairs in the ICU. I enjoy caring for the more critical patients and learning from the veterinarians and staff as they make treatment decisions. Seeing the thought process behind each patient’s care has taught me so much and has been one of the most valuable parts of my experience.

Favorite animal and why?

I’ve always been fascinated by sharks, especially tiger sharks. One of the things I love most about sharks is how many species are named after other animals, like tiger, zebra, and leopard sharks. I think it’s so interesting how diverse they are and the unique adaptations each species has. My favorite animals to work with at the hospital, though, are definitely the raccoons. They are very cute, and it’s always fun getting to care for them.

What’s your most memorable CROW moment so far?

One of the most memorable parts of my time at CROW has been getting to know my fellow students. I’ve made so many meaningful connections, and lear

ning alongside people who share the same passion for wildlife has made this experience even more special.

What activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of CROW?

Outside of CROW

, I enjoy playing guitar, crafting, spending time at the beach, and being with my friends and family.

What has been the most surprising thing during your time here?

The most surprising part of my internship has been the incredible diversity of cases that come through the hospital every day. No two days are the same, and I’ve learned how much teamwork, adaptability, and critical thinking go into wildlife rehabilitation.
