WHEREAS, in 2018, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife celebrates 50 years of exceptional service to our citizens, county, environment and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, one act of compassion in 1968 evolved into one of the nation’s leading wildlife hospital and rehabilitation centers, accepting native and migratory wildlife without tax support from the state or city;
WHEREAS, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife is dedicated to saving wildlife through state of the art veterinary care, research, education and conservation medicine; and offers immediate on-site critical care such as pain management, surgery and radiography, while also providing for long-term rehabilitation for approximately 3,500 wildlife patients each year, including more than 200 species of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife established a student program, unique in scope, teaching wildlife care and conservation medicine to college-age or older students; and also strives to educate the public about living with wildlife and environmental conservation, through presentations, programs, outreach events, and their Visitor Education Center, and
WHEREAS, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife works collaboratively with scientists and doctors at local, state and national institutions along with environmental and wildlife organizations to advance wildlife medicine throughout the world; and strives to put information gained to good use by improving the health of the environment, humans and our pets, through a better knowledge of wildlife health; and
WHEREAS, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife’s dedicated leadership, staff and volunteers tirelessly pursue the mission and dedicate thousands of hours helping to rescue, care for and rehabilitate local wildlife.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kevin Ruane, Mayor of the City of Sanibel, Lee County, Florida, do hereby call upon the citizens of Sanibel to join the City in celebrating the tremendous benefits and services the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife has contributed to our island, its residents and its environment over the last fifty years.
